{Miles + Zoe}

The community within KC Photography Co. continues to expand and grow, connected by people in all corners of the country!

I was recently sought out by a mother in Nevada who asked me to document her family while they were in this area. She is pretty camera-savvy herself, though admitted the times she is able to be photographed WITH her children is rare.

I told her we needed to remedy that as soon as possible!

Surrounded by trees, grandparents, and a BEAUTIFUL summer day, I took these portraits for her. There was a lot of magic in the air…

{A Book Review}

I don’t know about you, but I love continual learning. I love books. I love the ongoing process of exploration…

When I saw this book on a recommended reading list recently, I quickly put a hold on it at my local library. It surely did not disappoint!

If you’re the sort of person who longs for adventure and following their passion…who has ever felt conflicted between home-life and career…who believes in stories that matter…well then “It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life of Love and War” by Lynsey Addario is a read for you!

After being given a camera from her father, Addario’s love for photography was born and then grew exponentially. Proving her dedication through persistence and creativity, she was eventually hired by The New York Times. This memoir tells of her travels all over the world, often in very dangerous situations.

Addario has experienced kidnapping, fear, molestation, loss and love. Her disclosure of her very personal, unique story fascinated me.

“Journalism is a selfish profession. But I still believed in the power of its purpose, and hoped my family did, too,” she shares.

As a reader trying to imagine how the author processed through very real pain, loss, oppression, and hatred on an regular basis, it was a lot to take in. Yet I was left so inspired by her courage and perseverance. I also found her photographs to be extremely powerful.

Addario’s present life is a balancing act of sorts…

She says, “As a war correspondent and mother, I’ve learned to live in two different realities. It’s not always easy to make the transition from a beautiful London park filled with children to a war zone, but it’s my choice. I choose to live in peace and witness war – to experience the worst in people but to remember the beauty.”

That’s a perspective I can respect.

So hey, if you’re looking for an inspiring and motivating read, I would highly encourage you to pick up this true and very unique story. Let me know what you think!

{Azilee Turns One!}

Hello, friends!

This morning, I prayed that God would fill today with little happinesses + pops of good news… Sometimes I just need that to buoy up what I hear about in world events + even in the lives of those close to to me.

Imagine the smile it brought to my heart as I saw that this little princess was next in the que to be posted about right here in my Photo Journal!!

As I look at this sweet family I see so much LOVE + delight in each other…

 I see Azilee’s joyful soul shine through her bright eyes + adorable smile…

I see the cheer + hope of wonderful days to come in her life…

Photographing any family, but this family in particular, lifts my heart + shows me that there are truly bright + beautiful things in this world. And this little cherub is one of them.

Happy first birthday, dear girl; thank you for bringing sunshine to this earth, just by being you!
